Ayurveda & Yoga
In the Caraka samhita Çäréra sthäna Chapter 1 Verse No. 137 to 146 describes about Yoga, mystic powers and salvation.
This is an authentic evidence that Yoga is inevitably connected to Ayurveda
yoga mokñe ca sarväsäà vedanänäm avartanam
mokñe nivåttir niùçeñä yogo mokña pravartakaù //137//
Recurrence of all sensation is checked through yoga and mokña. The absolute eradication of sensation is attained through mokña. Yoga is a means to attain mokña.
ätmendriya manorthänäm sannikarñät pravartate
sukha dukham anärambhäd ätmasthe manasi sthire //138//
Happiness and miseries are felt as a result of the proximity of the soul to the sense organs, mind and the objects of the senses. Both these types of sensations do not originate when the mind is fixed on the soul (spiritual activities).
nivartate tad ubhayaà vaçitvaà copajäyate
sa çarérasya yogajïäs taà yogam åñayo viduù //139//
Both these become ineffective when self control is manifested. This is the essence (çarasa) of knowing yoga according to the opinion of the sages.
